How to make Spent Shell Casings?

In my project OPERATOR 79 I enriched scenic base by adding the spent shells. This idea was suggested to me by another hobbist. I think this works very much in favour of this model. I'll show you how to do the thing in a most simple way.

W moim projekcie OPERATOR 79 wzbogaciłem podstawkę, dodając na niej zużyte łuski od karabinu. Pomysł ten podsunął mi znajomy. Myślę, że wyszło to figurce na dobre. Pokażę Wam jak zrobić, najprostsze zużyte łuski.

What we need are:
- medical needles
- sharp cables clipper
- small pliers

Potrzebujemy:
- igły lekarskie
- ostra obcinaczka do kabli
- małe kombinerki

1. We can buy needles at any pharmacy. Available thickness (according to my knowledge and Wikipedia) is 0.3 mm to 2.1 mm. We choose the thickness that we need, according to the scale of figures. Your best bet, simply adjust the thickness of the needle into the barrel of a gun of your model.

Igły kupimy w każdej aptece. Dostępne grubości (według mojego rozeznania i Wikipedii) to 0,3mm do 2,1mm. Dobieramy potrzebną nam grubość, odpowiednio do skali figurki. Najprościej, po prostu dopasować grubość igły do lufy karabinu naszego modelu.

2. We set the length of spent shell. With a sharp clipper, slightly squeeze the needle. Turn the needle or cutters. In this way, at the needle rise a slight incision.

Ustalamy długość łuski. Ostrą obcinaczką do kabli, lekko ściskamy igłę. Obracamy igłę lub obcinaczki. W ten sposób na igle powstanie lekkie nacięcie.

3. With the pliers (or dull old clipper) we squeeze gently the item notched earlier (in step 2) and  breaks it off. Kombinerkami (lub tępą, starą obcinaczką) ściskamy delikatnie nacięty (w kroku 2) element i odłamujemy go.

4. The shells are ready. In my opinion with such a small scale as 32mm, 54mm or even 70mm, there is no point in improving them any further. If however, you would see need for some improvement, you can glue spent shells on one side using Green Stuff.

Najprostsze łuski są gotowe. Przy tak małej skali jak 32mm, 54mm czy nawet 70mm, moim zdaniem nie ma sensu udoskonalanie tych łusek. Jeśli macie jednak taką potrzebę, można zalepić jedną stronę łuski np. przy użyciu Green Stuff.

5. We can stick spent shells to the surface of the base or dioramas using Super Glue.
Łuskę do powierzchni podstawki lub dioramy przyklejamy za pomocą Super Glue.

6. We can leave the glued spent shells as they are or we can paint them according to our vision of the model. I painted them quite specifically. I used Vallejo Game Color Yellow INK 72085. Ink is transparent, and so, the natural silver color of the needle is visible. Deliberately, I also have not painted the spent shells perfectly over their entire surface.

Przyklejone łuski pozostawiamy lub możemy pomalować odpowiednio do potrzeb. Ja pomalowałem je dość specyficznie. Użyłem Vallejo Game Color Yellow INK 72085. Ink jest transparentny, dzięki czemu przebija naturalnie srebrny kolor igły. Celowo również nie pomalowałem łusek idealnie na całej ich powierzchni.
