Painting "Freeguild Cavalier Marshal" (SBS)

Another step-by-step chronicle of the process of painting the "Freeguild Cavalier Marshal" figure from Games Workshop. I call it a chronicle on purpose, because it is more of a report than a guide. However, I try to take as many photos as possible to create a "step by step" entry. I must admit that sometimes, deep in the creation process, I forget to take a photo, which is why there may be "holes" in the photo report :) I invite you to watch. Kolejna kronika "krok po kroku" z procesu malowania figurki "Freeguild Cavalier Marshal" od Games Workshop. Specjalnie nazywam to kroniką, bowiem jest to bardziej relacja niż poradnik. Staram się jednak robić jak najwięcej zdjęć tak aby powstał wpis typu "step by step". Nie ukrywam, że czasem będąc głęboko w procesie tworzenia zapominam o zrobieniu zdjęcia, stąd mogą występować "dziury" w fotorelacji :) Zapraszam do oglądania. PREPARATION AND ASSEMBLY

PRZYGOTOWANIE I SKŁADANIE

I assembled the figure like any other "standard" plastic model. It's so perfectly made (as I wrote in the review) that it required minor corrections.

Figurkę złożyłem jak każdy inny "standardowy" model plastikowy. Jest tak idealnie wykonana (o czym pisałem w recenzji), że wymagała naprawę niewielkich poprawek. 

I didn't glue it all together. I divided it into smaller elements to make painting them more convenient. This didn't exactly turn out to be a good solution. At a later stage, I had minor problems with putting the figure together. However, sometimes it is good to follow the assembly instructions provided by the manufacturer :) I later made a mistake by assembling the model in the wrong order...

Nie sklejałem jej całej. Podzieliłem na mniejsze elementy aby wygodniej się je malowało. Nie do końca okazało się to dobrym rozwiązaniem. W późniejszym etapie miałem przez to niewielkie problemy ze złożeniem figurki w całość. Czasem jednak dobrze jest przestrzegać instrukcji składania dostarczonej przez producenta :) Popełniłem później błąd przez złożenie modelu w złej kolejności...

PRIMER

PODKŁAD

I applied the surface primer with an airbrush. I used Vallejo and Green Stuff World primers in different colors. For example, the base color used on the horse will be its final base color.

Nałożyłem podkład aerografem. Użyłem podkładów Vallejo oraz Green Stuff World w różnych kolorach. Na przykład kolor podkładu użyty na koniu będzie już jego ostatecznym bazowym kolorem.

BLACKLINING

CZARNO KRESKOWANIE :)

As always (that's my style :) ), before painting the base colors, I started blacklining. I described this technique in a detailed guide that you can find here.

Jak zawsze (taki mam styl :) ) przed rozpoczęciem malowania bazowych kolorów zająłem się blackliningiem. Tą technikę opisałem dano temu w szczegółowy poradniku, który znajdziesz tutaj.

HORSE

KOŃ

I shaded the base color of the horse with an airbrush while applying the base coat. I made the shadows with a different surface primer color. At this stage I corrected them with a brush and added additional discolorations. I painted the base color of all the leather parts of the harness.

Bazowy kolor konia wycieniowałem aerografem w czasie nakładani apodkładu. Cienie zrobiłem innym kolorem podkładu. Na tym etapie poprawiłem je pędzlem i dodałem dodatkowe przebarwienia. Pomalowałem bazowy kolor wszystkich skórzanych elementów uprzęży.

From then on I used magnifying glasses.

Od tego momentu używałem już okularów powiększających.

METAL ELEMENTS

METALOWE ELEMENTY

For "fun", I painted the metal armor of the horse. I wanted to test the color scheme I was planning for the metal elements of this model.

W ramach "rozrywki" pomalowałem metalowy pancerz konia. Chciałem przetestować schemat kolorystyczny, który planowałem na metalowe elementy tego modelu.

SADDLEBAGS

SAKWY

I started painting all the saddlebags. I devoted a lot of time to them, focusing on details, discolorations and texture. Painting them as separate elements was a very convenient solution.

Zająłem się pomalowaniem wszystkich sakw. Poświęciłem im sporo czasu skupiając się na detalach, przebarwieniach i fakturze. Malowanie ich jako osobne elementy było bardzo wygodnym rozwiązaniem.

I also painted elements of the blanket attached behind the saddle.

Pomalowałem również elementy przyczepionego za siodłem koca.

I painted the leather parts of the harness on the horse using the same colors and techniques as for the saddlebags. I also took care of the saddle. I glued all the finished saddlebags to the horse. Now I could also go back to painting the skin and focus only on the visible areas.

Pomalowałem skórzane elementy uprzęży na koniu używając tych samych kolorów i technik co przy sakwach. Zająłem się również siodłem. Przykleiłem wszystkie gotowe sakwy do konia. Teraz mogłem również powrócić do malowania skóry i skupić się tylko na jej widocznych obszarach.

GUN HOLSTER

KABURA NA PISTOLET

I painted a gun holster. This element of the model is made together with part of the horse's hair and the reins.

Pomalowałem kaburę od pistoletu. Ten element modelu jest zrobiony razem z częścią włosów konia oraz lejcami.

FLAG

FLAGA

Now I focused on painting the flag.

Teraz skupiłem się na pomalowaniu flagi.

Since I didn't want to play with freehands, I decided to use the decals included with the model.

Jako, że nie chciało mi się bawić we "freehendy", postanowiłem wykorzystać kalkomanie dołączone do modelu.

And at this point I made the mistake I wrote about at the beginning. According to the instructions, sticking the flag should take place sooner. I had a problem but I managed.

I w tym momencie popełniłem błąd, o którym napisałem na początku. Zgodnie z instrukcją, przyklejenie flagi powinno nastąpić prędzej. Miałem problem ale udało się.

SCENIC BASE

PPODSTAWKA SCENICZNA

The idea for a scenic base was already deep in my head. Nothing extraordinary, but I wanted to see the whole model :) I used a round pedestal. It has been in my closet for several years, waiting for its opportunity :)

W głowie siedział mi już głęboko pomysł na podstawkę sceniczną. Nic nadzwyczajnego ale chciałem już widzieć model w całości :) Wykorzystałem okrągły piedestał. Przeleżał w mojej szafie już kilka lat czekając na swoją okazję :)

I also wanted to test new products from Geek Gaming Scenics, GamersGrass and AMMO. After gluing the figure, I started building the surface using AMMO - Vignettes Acrylic MUD (Light Earth Ground A.MIG-2152) paste. The color didn't matter here because I would paint everything later anyway. It's more about simplicity and speed of execution. And this product was perfect for this. I must admit that this paste works great. Even with a thick layer, it dried quickly and did not shrink.

Chciałem również przetestować nowe produkty od Geek Gaming Scenics, GamersGrass i AMMO. Po przyklejeniu figurki rozpocząłem budowę powierzchni używając pasty AMMO - Vignettes Acrylic MUD (Light Earth Ground A.MIG-2152). Kolor nie miał tutaj znaczenia bo i tak wszystko później pomaluje. Chodzi raczej o prostotę i szybkość wykonania. I do tego ten produkt nadał się idealnie. Musze przyznać, że ta pasta działa świetnie. Nawet przy grubej warstwie, wyschła szybko i nie skurczyła się.

Before the mass dried, I immediately sprinkled it with the mixture from Geek Gaming Scenics. It was the first time I used this method and it was another pleasant surprise with this project.

Zanim masa wyschła od razu obsypałem ją mieszanką od Geek Gaming Scenics. Pierwszy raz zastosowałem taka metodę i to kolejne miłe zaskoczenie przy tym projekcie.

This is not ordinary sand sold in bags, but a special mixture of sand, various types of pebbles, grass sprinkles and probably a mysterious powder binder. Mega positive surprise - I recommend it.

Nie jest to zwykły piasek sprzedawany w workach ale specjalna mieszanka piasku, rożnego rodzaju kamyczków, trawiastej posypki oraz prawdopodobnie tajemniczego spoiwa w proszku. Mega pozytywne zaskoczenie - polecam.

I also embedded several resin elements of an animal skeleton, a skull and larger stones in the AMMO mass. The larger stones were intended to help the original plastic base connect to the rest.

W masie AMMO zatopiłem również kilka żywicznych elementów zwierzęcego szkieletu, czaszkę oraz większe kamienie. Większe kamienie miały pomóc połączyć się oryginalnej plastikowej podstawce z całością.

After the mass dried, the next day I used AMMO oil effects to give the whole thing uniform colors. I love these effects because they give natural color and mix very well during application.

Po wyschnięciu masy, następnego dnia, użyłem olejnych efektów AMMO aby nadać całości jednolite kolory. Uwielbiam te efekty ponieważ nadają naturalny kolor i bardzo dobrze mieszają się między sobą w czasie aplikacji.

After the oil effects dried, I made the first drybrush of the entire surface.

Po wyschnięciu efektów olejnych wykonałem pierwszy drybrush całej powierzchni.

I painted all the stones (big and small) with different shades of gray. I also painted the bones in the base color.

Pomalowałem wszystkie kamienie (duże i małe) różnymi odcieniami szarości. Pomalowałem również kości na bazowy kolor.

I used black and gray Vallejo washes on all the rocks, bones and dry branches.

Użyłem czarnego i szarych washy Vallejo na wszystkich kamieniach, kościach i suchych gałęziach.

After the wash dried, I drybrushed the stones. The main goal was to increase contrast. I also highlighted the bones.

Po wyschnięciu washy wykonałem drybrush na kamieniach. Głównym celem było zwiększenie kontrastu. Rozjaśniłem również kości.

Now it's time to add vegetation. I used new tufts from GamersGrass and the well-known vegetation from Paint Forge.

Teraz przyszedł czas na dodanie roślinności. Wykorzystałem nowe tufty od GamersGrass oraz dobrze Wam na pewno znaną roślinność od Paint Forge.

I used tufts of different sizes and colors. I also used yellow flowers for variety.

Zastosowałem kępki różnej wielkości i różnych kolorów. Użyłem też żółte kwiatki dla urozmaicenia.

I added some details in the form of natural roots and increased the number of dry branches sticking out of the ground.

Dodałem trochę detali w postaci naturalnych korzeni i zwiększyłem ilość wystających z ziemi suchych gałęzi.

The result was a classic, well-made stand without any bells and whistles. That's what I wanted :)

Wyszła z tego klasyczna, myślę, że dobrze wykonana podstawka bez wodotrysków. Tak chciałem :)

RIDER

JEŹDZIEC

All that remains is to paint the rider :) I started with the base colors.

Pozostało już "tylko" pomalować jeźdźca :) Zacząłem od kolorów bazowych.

I painted the head.

Pomalowałem głowę.

Now I could attach the head and focus on the details.

Teraz mogłem już przymocować głowę i skupić się na detalach.

I brightened and shaded the red coat very slightly. I focused on edging. The effect did not satisfy me at this stage, but I decided to move on and return to the coat at the very end.

Czerwony płaszcz rozjaśniłem i wycieniowałem bardzo delikatnie. Skupiłem się na krawędziowaniu. Efekt nie zadowolił mnie na tym etapie ale postanowiłem iść dalej a do płaszcza wrócić na samym końcu.

I was waiting for this moment. I was able to assemble practically the entire model. Placing the rider on the horse turned out to be quite problematic. I had to use force and be careful not to break the figure.

Na ten moment czekałem. mogłem złożyć już praktycznie cały model. Umieszczenie jeźdźca na koniu okazało się dość problematyczne. Musiałem użyć siły i uważać, żeby nie połamać figurki.

SHIELD

TARCZA

When working on the shield, I again used the decals included with the model.

Pracując nad tarczą ponownie wykorzystałem kalkomanie dołączone do modelu.

I spent some time working on the details.

Poświęciłem jej trochę czasu pracując nad detalami.

I glued the shields to the figure. We can say that the model is finished :)

Tarcze przykleiłem do figurki. Można powiedzieć, że model jest skończony :)

FINAL CORRECTIONS

POPRAWKI

Now it's time to look at the model as a whole. I made a lot of corrections in many places. I corrected the edges, added highlights and deepened the shadows. All this to increase the contrast on the model. I verified the appearance of the base and added some details to highlight the stones.

Teraz czas na spojrzenie na model całościowo. Wykonałem sporą ilość poprawek w wielu miejscach. Poprawiałem krawędziowania, dodawałem rozjaśnienia i pogłębiałem cienie. Wszystko po to aby zwiększyć kontrast na modelu. Zweryfikowałem wygląd podstawki, dodałem parę detali rozjaśnień kamieni.

I'm still not happy with the red coat. Additionally, it is difficult to photograph. I will come back to it in a few weeks or before a possible painting event to which I will take this model.

Nadal nie jestem zadowolony z czerwonego płaszcza. Dodatkowo trudno go sfotografować. Powrócę do niego za kilka tygodni lub przed ewentualnym konkursem, na który zabiorę ten model.
