I started finishing the upper part of the frame. According to the reference graphic, there are stalactites at the top. I'm posting this picture again as a reminder.
Zająłem się wykończeniem górnej części ramki. Zgodnie z referencyjną grafiką u góry znajdują się stalaktyty. Wrzucam jeszcze raz ten obrazek dla przypomnienia.

So this week I mainly focused on making stalactites. I thought about making it a separate guide, but I decided to include it in this series. Such a bonus for loyal readers :) To make stalactites we need a toothpick. They can be of different thickness.
Tak więc w tym tygodniu zająłem się głównie zrobieniem stalaktytów. Myślałem, czy nie zrobić z tego osobnego poradnika ale postanowiłem wrzucić to jednak do tego cyklu. Taki bonus dla wiernych czytelników :) Aby zrobić stalaktyty potrzebujemy wykałaczek. Mogą być one różnej grubości.
I cut the toothpicks into pieces of different lengths. However, I selected them to fit the diorama frame. They weren't too long or too short.
Wykałaczki pociąłem na różnej długości kawałki. Dobrałem je jednak tak aby pasowały do ramki z dioramą. Nie były za długie ani za krótkie.
I prepared a thicker cardboard with a length exactly equal to the internal width of the frame. I started gluing the cut toothpicks. I used gel formula Super Glue. It was not an easy task. A glue activator would be useful here, which I didn't have. This would significantly speed up the work. Unfortunately, this stage took me about 2 evenings...
Przygotowałem grubszy karton o długości dokładnie takiej jak wewnętrzna szerokość ramki. Zacząłem przyklejać pocięte wykałaczki. Użyłem gęstego kleju typu Super Glue. Nie było to łatwe zadanie. Przydał by się tutaj aktywator kleju, którego nie miałem. Przyśpieszyło by to znacząco pracę. Niestety ten etap zajął mi jakieś 2 wieczory...
Wzmocniłem wszystko większą ilością Super Glue.
After the Super Glue was completely dry, I additionally strengthened the whole thing with a large amount of PVA glue. I turned everything upside down so that the glue flowed freely.
Po całkowitym wyschnięciu Super Glue, wzmocniłem dodatkowo całość duża ilością kleju typu Wikol. Odwróciłem wszystko do góry nogami aby klej swobodnie spływał.
I prepared a regular finishing coat (gypsum). I mixed it with water.
Przygotowałem zwykła gładź szpachlową. Rozrobiłem ją z wodą.
Using an old, large brush, I applied the mixed plaster onto toothpicks. I always turned the whole thing over so that the plaster flowed freely down, creating something that looked like stalactites. The plaster was a bit thin at this stage.
Starym, dużym pędzlem naniosłem rozrobioną gładź na wykałaczki. Zawsze odwracałem całość tak aby gips spływał swobodnie w dół tworząc coś co wyglądało by jak stalaktyty. Gips był trochę za żadki na tym etapie.
When the plaster became thicker, I added more of it. This gave better control.
Kiedy gips zrobił się gęstszy dodawałem go więcej. Dało to lepszą kontrolę.
I left the whole thing to dry for 24 hours. The effect was satisfactory for me. However, the plaster turned out to be very delicate. So I strengthened the whole thing with my favorite AK Gravel & Sand. Without this drug, working on this entire diorama would be more difficult.
Pozostawiłem całość na 24h do wyschnięcia. Efekt był dla mnie zadowalający. Gips okazał się jednak bardzo delikatny. Wzmocniłem więc całość moim ulubionym środkiem AK Gravel&Sand. Bez tego specyfiku praca nad całą tą dioramą była by trudniejsza.
Pozostawiłem całość na 24h do wyschnięcia. Efekt był dla mnie zadowalający. Gips okazał się jednak bardzo delikatny. Wzmocniłem więc całość moim ulubionym środkiem AK Gravel&Sand. Bez tego specyfiku praca nad całą tą dioramą była by trudniejsza.
This is what stalactites look like. I think they turned out OK. At the very end, after mounting in the frame, I strengthened them again with Super Glue.
Tak prezentują się stalaktyty. Myślę, że wyszły OK. Na samym końcu, po zamontowaniu w ramce wzmocniłem je jeszcze raz klejem Super Glue.
I glued the stalactites in the frame. They fit perfectly, just as I wanted. A few evenings of work finished :)
Przykleiłem stalaktyty w ramce. Pasują idealnie tak jak chciałem. Kilka wieczorów pracy zakończone :)
I moved on to finishing the top of the diorama above the largest bridge. I started adding details above the main stairs.
Przeszedłem do wykończenia górnej części dioramki nad największym mostem. Zacząłem dodawać detale nad głównymi schodami.

On the left side, I added another part of the stairs. This required partial removal of the Styrodur in this place. I started to feel a bit burnt out and tired at this stage of construction...
Po lewej stronie, dorobiłem dalszą część schodów. Wymagało to częściowego rozklejenia styroduru w tym miejscu. Zacząłem czuć lekkie wypalenie i znużenie na tym etapie budowy...
To add some varied texture, I re-glued pieces of plaster rubble from Juweela onto the walls behind the stalactites.
Aby dodać trochę zróżnicowanej tekstury, ponownie przykleiłem drone kawałki gipsowego gruzu od Juweela na ścianach za stalaktytami.

The next day I reinforced everything with AK Gravel&Sand and left it to dry for another day. I want to make sure that everything will hold tightly and that the elements will not fall off during painting.
Następnego dnia wzmocniłem wszystko za pomocą AK Gravel&Sand i pozostawiłem do wyschnięcia na kolejny dzień. Chcę mieć pewność, że wszystko będzie się mocno trzymało i elementy nie będą odpadać w czasie malowania.
Still not enough details... I sat and looked at the whole thing, trying to figure out what to add where... I added previously used bricks to the door on the left.
Ciągle mało detali... Siedziałem i patrzyłem na całość wymyślając co gdzie tu dodać... Przy drzwiach z lewej strony dokleiłem wykorzystywane już prędzej cegiełki.

I also improved the bas-relief above the main stairs. I improved the entrance on the left. My plan is to print some very small items like pottery, weapons, shields, etc. at an appropriate scale and place them in several places on the floor and in nooks and crannies.
Poprawiłem też płaskorzeźbę nad głównymi schodami. Ulepszyłem wejście z lewej strony. Mam plan wydrukować trochę bardzo drobnych elementów jak ceramika, broń, tarcze itp. w odpowiedniej skali i umieścić je w kilku miejscach na podłodze i w zakamarkach.
Poprawiłem też płaskorzeźbę nad głównymi schodami. Ulepszyłem wejście z lewej strony. Mam plan wydrukować trochę bardzo drobnych elementów jak ceramika, broń, tarcze itp. w odpowiedniej skali i umieścić je w kilku miejscach na podłodze i w zakamarkach.
The current state of the diorama at this stage of work is shown in the photo below. I won't show you how LED lighting works :) I'll leave that for the end :)
Aktualny stan dioramy na tym etapie prac przedstawia poniższe zdjęcie. Nie pokaże Wam jak działa oświetlenie LED :) To zostawię na sam koniec :)
I hope that in the next stage I will only add details and finish the frame with veneer on the outside. I'm looking forward to covering everything with foundation. I believe that then the magic will begin and I will start painting. Please tell me what you think about these stalactites and the whole thing. Give me some ideas on what to improve, add or improve. I am waiting for all your comments!
Mam nadzieję, że w kolejnym etapie zajmę się już tylko dodawaniem detali i wykończeniem ramki fornirem na zewnątrz. Czekam już z niecierpliwością na pokrycie całości podkładem. Wierzę, że wtedy zacznie się magia i przejdę do malowania. Napiszcie proszę co sądzicie o tych stalaktytach i całości. Podsuńcie mi jakieś pomysły co ulepszyć, dodać czy poprawić. Czekam na Wasze wszelkie uwagi!
